Book Review: All Fall Down

Title: All Fall Down
Series: Embassy Row #1
Author: Ally Carter
Published: 2015
Publisher: Scholastic Press
Rating:
Brief Overview: Three years before the book begins, Grace's mother was killed in front of her. At age 16, she moves to Embassy Row to live with her grandfather, the US ambassador in Adria. There she meets old acquaintances, new friends and some very suspicious people. Grace knows her mother's murderer is a man with a scar and she begins seeing him around the city. The problem is,she has a history of crying wolf and not a single person believes her.

Main Character: Everyone in Grace's life think that her mother's death was an accident and that Grace has gone a bit crazy as a result. Since the story is told from her perspective, Grace is an unreliable narrator. She is also the type to do things first and think later. She is brave but she is emotional and short sighted and always ends up in trouble - often internationally. She doesn't trust anyone around her and alienates those closest to her.

Impressions: I loved All Fall Down. It was a stressful read for me, because as a reader I didn't know if I should trust Grace's accounts of events or not. The ending was a bit of a twist, and even though I started to see it coming I was still very much captivated as it played out. I wouldn't exactly call it a cliff hanger ending, but there were still a lot of unanswered questions and I am excitedly waiting for the next book in the series.

Have you read All Fall Down? Did you trust Graces perspective? Did you predict the ending?

  1. I haven't read any books by Ally Carter before, but this one seems really good. I like books with unreliable narrators. It makes a story a lot more interesting.
Also, I’ve nominated you in the Versatile Blogger Award. I’m not sure if you’ve already been nominated, or have done it yet. You can check the post here.

  3. I want to read this book soon, so I'm glad you liked this one. I just hope it doesn't stress me out lol, though I tend to blindly trust the main character, so I'll probably be fine :) Great post!

  6. This was my first Ally Carter book, and I was pleasantly surprised. I kind of felt like it was a little more young than I was expecting, but it was a solid read. I will definitely be reading the upcoming books in the series.
